BACHFEST LEIPZIG
Bach Collegium San Diego
Ruben Valenzuela, conductor
BCSD is preparing to return to Germany for our second European Tour. The ensemble was invited back to perform at the prestigious Bachfest in Leipzig - where Johann Sebastian Bach was appointed Thomaskantor. In 2024, BCSD performed to a sold out 700 seat hall at the Paulinum University Church, followed by a tour of the region with concerts at the Bach Church in Arnstadt and St. Wentzel’s Church in Naumburg.
2027: Bachfest Leipzig & Germany Tour
Music by J.S. Bach and Schein. Three performances in historic Bach venues in Germany, including the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig and St. Wenzel’s Church in Naumburg.
Bach’s cantatas BWV 32 and BWV 49 unfold as intimate, dialogue-driven meditations of striking virtuosity, while Schein’s motets from his celebrated Israelsbrünnlein compendium offer an austere yet deeply expressive voice. Together, they trace an arc from early German Baroque devotions to the drama of Bach and the high Baroque.
